Net Metering

2017 NET METERING SPECIFICATIONS:

WEC’s 2017 net metering tariff is here:2017 NET METER TARIFF. This includes descriptions of how WEC members with net metering installations before 2017 will be treated in 2017, and going forward.

2014 NET METERING SPECIFICATIONS:

WEC members whose net metering installations occurred between July 2014, and December 2016, are now treated as a two meter, “legacy” net metering system. The monetization of net excess generation is now valued at the current WEC tail block rate (~.23/kwh).

LEGACY NET METERING:

Members who received their Certificate of Public Good (CPG) before October 2013 for an approved net metering installation are “legacy” net metering accounts. Legacy net metering uses a single, bi-directional WEC meter; WEC does not measure the gross PV kwh production of legacy installations. Here’s how to read a WEC legacy net metering meter display: (net metering example)

HIGH USE AUDIT:

Members who want to install self-generation under the net metering tariff, whose current average usage exceeds 750 kwh/month over the past two years  (or 25 kwh/day, or 9,000 kwh/year) may need to provide the Co-op with documentation the home has undergone a thermal audit of the sort provided through Efficiency Vermont’s “Home Performance with Energy Star “ (HPw/ES) or “Vermont Energy Star Homes (VESH)” programs; documentation should be provided to demonstrate the home’s final and verified performance according to the program standards then in place. If no documentation is available the member will need to contact HPw/ES and schedule a thermal audit, and provide WEC with the final report before proceeding to install net metering generation equipment.

PV PRODUCTION METER:

The member will be required to pay the Co-op the installed cost of the second meter; such meter will be provided by the Co-op, and will be maintained by and used for billing purposes by the Co-op. The cost of the required digital meter is $222.56.
