East Montpelier, VT—Washington Electric Cooperative encourages its members to reduce energy consumption this evening, Thursday, August 4, 2022. With such high temperatures, the demand for electricity may rise dramatically this evening. Increased demand on the electrical grid means higher costs to you on your monthly bill and to the Co-op, as well as limitations on the renewable power we enjoy. You and the Co-op save money and resources when you help shift the power peak!
What you can do to conserve electricity:
- Avoid using major appliances like washers and dryers, dishwashers, or power tools, and charging your EV until after the peak period
- Turn off or unplug lights, appliances, and electronics not in use
- Raise, not lower, the temperature of your air conditioner or heat pump
- Open windows and use fans to circulate air
- Cook with a toaster oven or grill outside, instead of using an electric stove or oven
- Stay hydrated with plenty of water—both you and pets/livestock
