Outages – 11/27 – 30/2023

Louis PorterOutages

Thursday, November 30 – 2:30 pm

WEC crews, assisted by over 30 other line workers, have worked around the clock since the early morning on Monday, November 27 to restore outages to more than 6,500 WEC members throughout the Co-op’s service territory. Sunday night, a snowstorm brought heavy, wet snow to Vermont, which weighed down trees. The majority of the outages were caused by trees interacting with the power lines or by snow unloading from trees. Roughly 30,000 Vermonters lost power due to the storm.

As of 2:30 pm today, crews are working to restore power to a small outage in Washington (Sky Acres Rd area), which is expected to be back on around 3 pm. Another crew has been dispatched to a small outage in Moretown (Ward Brook Rd area), which has no estimated restoration time presently. If and when more information is available, we will post that for our members.

We would like to thank…

  • All those outside crews who assisted with the restoration process—your quick and kind response helped us restore power to our members.
  • The vendors and others who provided support to our line workers so they could continue working.
  • All WEC line workers for their hard work and dedication, the dispatchers for organizing the restoration efforts and keeping folks on track, the member services representatives for fielding calls from our members reporting outages or simply seeking reassurance, and all other staff for their work keeping everyone fed, warm, and sane.
  • Most of all, our members for their patience and understanding as we worked as safely and quickly as we could to restore power.

Thank you!

If you are still out of power by 7 pm today and are not in the areas listed above, please call in your outage at local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.

Thursday, November 30 – 10 am

Crews are working hard to restore power to the 68 members still without power. Again, we expect that the remaining outages will be restored by noon today.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.
If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.

Thursday, November 30 – 4:30 am

About 150 WEC members remain out of power this morning after crews worked overnight again on restoration. We expect that the remaining difficult to repair or remote spots still experiencing outages will be restored to power by noon.

If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.

Wednesday, November 29 – 7:40 pm

Crews continue to restore power to members who are out of service, and have brought the total out of power to fewer than 300.

Line workers will continue working through the night. Unfortunately, a couple of sections of line which are in difficult to access areas that run for long distances off road or which have extensive damage and many trees down are unlikely to be restored until tomorrow at noon.

Those sections include the portion of Williamstown and Chelsea around Edwards Road and Haywards Cross Road and the portion of Washington around Route 110, Poor Farm Road and Hart Hollow Road.

Scattered outages in Tunbridge may also persist until tomorrow.

We appreciate your patience and will continue working until all outages are restored.

If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.

Wednesday, November 29 – 3:30 pm

WEC and outside crews have worked throughout the day across WEC’s service territory to restore power to our members. There are currently roughly 530 members without power. With the exception of a few members, primarily in very remote locations or particularly difficult restorations, we will be restoring power to the bulk of our members today.

Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.
If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.

Wednesday, November 29 – 1 pm

Crews have restored power to all but roughly 700 WEC members. With the exception of some more remote locations or more difficult restorations, we will have the bulk of the outages restored today.

Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.

Wednesday, November 29 – 8:30 am

WEC crews and outside crews are continuing to work steadily to restore power to our members throughout WEC territory. Just over 1,200 members remain without power. Again, we anticipate restoring power to most members today.

Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized.
If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.

Wednesday, November 29 – 6 am

Crews restored power to more members overnight, bringing the total WEC membership out of power down close to fewer than 1400 this morning. With the exception of some more remote locations or more difficult restorations, we anticipate bringing most remaining members back into service today. This storm, which was not anticipated by anyone to cause as much damage in Vermont as it has, is the fifth most severe wet snowstorm since 2009 in terms of statewide outages. Of those five most severe wet snowstorms, three have happened in the last 13 months.

Thanks to the WEC crews and the outside line workers who are assisting us with all of their good work, and to the members for their patience and understanding.

If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.

Tuesday, November 28 – 6:45 pm

WEC crews, with the help of many line workers from outside our territory, restored most of the outages that members have been experiencing since Monday. Heavy wet snow, trees down on lines, broken poles and other complications have slowed restoration efforts.

About 1,854 members remain out at this time, and, although crews will continue to work through the night, there will be members whose power is not restored until tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience.

As part of their work restoring power in Middlesex, WEC crews had to turn off electricity to the three-phase line near Interstate-89. This should only take about 20 minutes until power can be restored again.

Tuesday, November 28 – 10:30 am

WEC crews, assisted by outside crews, continue to work throughout WEC’s service territory today. Roughly 3,200 WEC members remain without power.

Power has been restored to members in towns across WEC territory, but about 4,400 members remain out of service. Crews continue to work on restoring service, but we expect that some members will not be back on until Wednesday. As always, restoration has to occur beginning at the substations and working out to the more remote locations with fewer outages. This enables us to restore power to the greatest number of members as fast as possible.

Thank you for your patience.
