WEC Advises Members to Prepare for Potential Outages

WECNotices, Outages

Friday, December 8, 2023 – 3:30 pm

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Watch for an incoming storm expected to impact our region beginning the evening of Sunday, December 10 through the evening of Monday, December 11. The storm will begin with heavy rain throughout the day on Sunday, accompanied by winds gusting 25-35 mph. Minor flooding may be possible from the heavy rain and elevated temperatures melting the snow-pack. Around midnight, precipitation will transition over to heavy wet snow. 5 – 10 inches of heavy wet snow is possible across Central and Northern Vermont, with wind gusts up to around 40 mph during the day on Monday.

With these conditions, WEC is expecting potential outages throughout its service territory Sunday and Monday. WEC crews will work hard to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.

We encourage everyone to prepare for potential outages and make plans to stay elsewhere, if needed. Please see our Outage Checklist for tips on how to prepare for outages. Call 211 for support for basic resources.

Stay safe, everyone!
