WEC crews have restored all outages in our territory, including those caused by a likely tornado.

Thanks to WEC dispatchers, line crews and others for a long day of hard work. Happy National Line Worker Appreciation Day.

Remember: if you see lines down, do not touch or approach them. They could still be energized. Please report any downed wires or trees by calling WEC immediately at 1-802-223-5245 or 1-800-932-5245.

4/17/2026 – 2:40 pm

WEC crews are working on the last few outages remaining from storm and likely tornado damage in the Williamstown and Northfield area. Only three members remain out of service and we anticipate restoration at those spots fairly soon.

4/17/2026 – 11:45 am

WEC crews have restored a significant outage in the Northfield/Williamstown areas bringing the total number of members out of power down to about 120.

WCAX Television is reporting that a tornado likely touched down in the Williamstown area, causing severe damage including hail, many trees down and impacts to homes.

This contributed to the damage on WEC’s system.

4/17/2026 – 9:05 am

About 350 members remain out of service, mostly in a band of Northfield, Williamstown and Roxbury where high winds caused extensive damage. Crews continue to work on repairing lines and removing trees from lines there, as well as on a smaller possibly lighting caused outage in Middlesex affecting about 7 members.

4/17/2026 – 8:45 am

WEC crews has to turn a section of line off to safely do repairs in the Northfield/Williamstown area, temporarily raising the number of WEC members out of service to just over 500. This will be restored as soon as they do the repairs to this section.

4/17/2026 – 8:15 am

Crews continue to work on restoring outages. The specifics of where outages are and what sections of line are affected is somewhat hampering our ability to get reads from some meters, but we are down to just under 400 members out of service currently. The Plainfield outage has been restored, crews continue to work on remaining issues.

4/17/2026 – 7:30 am

Crews needed to turn off a section of line in order to remove a burning tree on the wire. Currently there are 596 members out of service from 14 separate events, down from over 1,400 during the night.

4/17/2026 – 6:55 am

Crews have restored a large outage, but other smaller outages remain in the Williamstown and Northfield area where severe thunderstorms and microbursts brought down many trees, including on WEC lines. When a large outage like we experienced this morning is restored, it often reveals more issues that were within the same area but were not apparent until the larger outage was restored.

About 582 WEC members remain out of service, primarily in Williamstown, Northfield, Roxbury and Brookfield. Smaller outages are affecting members in Washington, Plainfield and elsewhere in our territory.

4/17/2026 – 6 a.m.

WEC crews worked overnight on outages caused by thunderstorms and wind overnight. Crews have just restored power in the largest outage in the Northfield and Williamstown area. Many trees downed in a thunderstorm there brought down a main WEC line, and made accessing the issue difficult as Route 14 also had trees down on it. About 1,400 members were out of power at the peak of outages.
